Final post — Evicted

The final part of my book was mostly the epilogue but was good because it explained more of the book and what the author thought should be changed and gave reason that these people in his book should be helped and that it isn’t fair to them that they don’t have the opportunity like others.

This picture shows that they are left out and didn’t have the same opportunity as others.

I get where he is coming from and that yes it would be nice if they got help. Because they are going through a lot and especially those in the book that have kids are really struggling. Rent is most of their income which then basically leaves them with nothing to help their family. Since the mom loses most of her money to rent she then doesn’t have enough to get her kid’s school supplies and new clothes and shoes. At one moment in the book, the mom ends up saving a little bit of money and gets one of her sons a new pair of shoes. Him getting this new pair of shoes really made his day. It is the little things for these people in the book that make their day.

This cartoon shows that they do need help but don’t get the help that they need from anyone.

There are two sides to this and yes they should get help but yet they also shouldn’t. Most of these people get themselves to where they are now. Most of them do drugs and just live off of checks from the state. I don’t think that there was one person in the book that actually had a job. I am pretty sure that all of them were living off of checks from the government. Some of them even said that it was a better option to live off of those checks and that it was suggested that they do that instead of getting an actual job.

This demonstrates that they don’t get any help and that they got themselves into the situation that they are in.

You can have a lot of mixed feelings through this book. To me, it wasn’t one of the best books that I have ever read. I mean you can read it if you want but I wouldn’t really suggest this book to anyone there are better books out there.

This section is kinda like a continuation of the last section. The lady who got kicked out of her previous apartment is really hoping that she didn’t argue with the person she was living with. I mean she didn’t even pay rent and she was arguing with her like that makes no sense. It is her fault that she got kicked out in the first place.

The reason why she regrets what she did is because she is now homeless. Imagine that. It’s not like she is making her life any better or even trying because now she is a prostitute. Honestly could have seen this coming from a mile away.

Later on, it switched to a different perspective and this guy is actually trying to turn his life around. I mean it is pretty hard to get any worse when you are doing drugs every day of the month. That’s the reason why he couldn’t buy a house because he had no money. His mom even gave him money but he decided that drugs were the best option for his money.

Going back to the lady she is actually going to church and trying to better herself besides the prostitute part. I don’t know if they are actually trying to turn their life around or if one day they wake up and think that they are going to change and then the next day they go back to drugs.

We will see if anyone actually changes their life around. I can see at least one of them doing it but yet again they all like to do drugs.

Post 5– Evicted

This section of my book has been good it hasn’t been great but it is still good. The two ladies that have been living together ended up getting into an argument surprise surprise. You could totally see that coming from a mile away. I mean the one who has kids doesn’t even have a job and also doesn’t pitch in for the rent. The one paying the rent was going to eventually get mad and kick her out.

When she got kicked out of the house I honestly thought that she was going to be living on the streets for the rest of her life. But apparently, she found a place to live I don’t know why the landlord would let her live in one of her houses. I mean I guess she would considering that she got lied to. The one lady lied about getting evicted from other places and said that she would get the rent right away. We all know that that isn’t going to happen and that she is eventually going to get evicted again.

The trailer park never got mentioned in this section but I could only imagine what is going on there. I wonder what that one guy did with all the stolen stuff that he took from a guy who just died. I am sure that the trailer park will be brought back up later on in the book with more people getting evicted and more stuff getting stolen.

Going back to the lady that got evicted she is complaining about someone she knows and how she blows her money on stupid stuff and has no money for rent. It’s almost like she is talking about herself because she does the same thing. Not like she has any money for rent. It’s almost like I want to go into the book and tell them to get a JOB!!!!! Like if you need money get a job.

We will see what happens in the next section and we will see if that one lady will get evicted for like the tenth time.

Fourth Post – Evicted

This section wasn’t that bad compared to the first two that I read. I like that now the characters are starting to get their act together and try to figure out life. Like they are actually trying to make things work and do jobs to pay for their rent.

There is this one character who still hasn’t found a job and is behind on rent but did not get evicted. The reason that she did not get evicted is that the landlord was showing the house to another person and she then rented it out to that person. It was a young lady who was then kind enough to let her stay with her kids and didn’t even ask for any rent money which was very nice of her.

There is also this guy who owns a trailer park and is making bank of of it even though half the people there don’t even pay their rent and the trailers are run down. The trailers are so disgusting that they shouldn’t even be rented out to people. It is so bad that I don’t even think animals would want to live in their. But I guess some people just have nowhere to go and all they want is a roof over their heads.

Then One guy died and these guys started to go to his trailer and take his stuff like what the hell. The guy just died and they are going to take his stuff and sell it. I don’t know it is weird.

We will see in the next section if the guy who owns the trailer park decides to fix up the place or leave it as is. We will see if the one girl with kids living rent-free will get kicked out or not because I think that she is getting close to being kicked out.

Third Post – Evicted

I am actually starting to like the book now. The author finally decided to stick to one character and write for a while. It is starting to get interesting and I am wondering what will happen next. It is still jumping from character to character but it is less describing and more storytelling now.

More people are getting evicted and the movers are taking their stuff. It is sad to think that most of these people who are being evicted have children. Also, these kids have to move from house to house all of the time.

I also learned that the movers who come and take their stuff out end up bringing it to a storage unit. Those who have then been evicted have to pay a fee to get their stuff back. Not only do they have to come up with some money to get their stuff, but they also have to pay the debt that they have for rent. Most of the characters in the book keep digging themselves into a deeper and deeper hole.

All of the main characters don’t have jobs and are just living off of checks from the state. It is not like they are trying to get jobs either. It’s like if you need money get a job. They just complain that they have no money and can’t pay the rent. Doesn’t help that most of them are crackheads and they waste most of their money on drugs.

It’s also frustrating because they have kids and are not doing anything to make money so that they can get them clothes and food. They aren’t being a very good role model to their kids and their kids will probably end up like their parents because that is what they have seen and that’s all they know.

One lady said she got robbed and begged the church for money to help pay her rent. They ended up giving her a couple hundred bucks, but they later found out that she was lying about getting robbed.

The book is getting better which is good. It is a lot easier to read a book when you are actually into the story. Hopefully, the next section gets even better.

Second Post

I will say that this second section of my book is a little bit better than the first but not by much. It still is bouncing back and forth between families that are renting. I wish that it would just stay on one family already. Like once something happens it then moves on to a different family.

The picture shows the families moving to demonstrate the families having to move around from place to place in my book.

In this section, it did stick with and talk about one family which I did like because you actually got a chance to understand and learn the family and what they are going through. It has gotten better by showing more with the families than it did in the previous section.

I did find out in this section that the landlord is not a nice lady. In the beginning, it seemed like she was nice and was trying to help out these families and felt bad for them, but now she won’t even go over to the place that they are renting from her to fix a pipe. They have asked her multiple times and even threatened to not pay the full rent but she will not come over and fix the problem. I was really surprised especially since she seemed nice at the beginning.

I don’t know, I still am not 100% liking the book yet, but we will see the farther I get into it. It’s like the author doesn’t know what to write about and then switches to the next family. It might get better we will see.

First post

After finishing my book’s first section, I am unsure about it. Yeah I know that it is only the beginning of the book and the author is probably using the beginning to talk about everyone in the book. The book is all narrative and I wish that it was in first person. The author talks about people that were evicted and not relevant to the book which makes me a little mad because why even talk about them when it means nothing. It seems like the landlord is having a tough time with a lot of people who are renting from her. One did crack and was behind on rent but asked her if he could paint one of the houses to reduce his debt. She actually agreed to him painting the house like why would you let him do that when you already have little trust in the guy.

Through the First section this is kinda what they described the houses to be like. It sounded like they where pretty rundown. Besides this the landlord goes to a confrence which why does the reader need to know this becuase all that happens at the confrence is a lot of arguing and screeming that does not go along with anything else that has happened. We will se what happens in the next section hopefully it will be better.

Starter (.5) Post

The book I am reading is Evicted by Matthew Desmond. The reason I chose this book is mainly because it is happening in Milwaukee. Besides that, it also caught my eye because this book follows eight families struggling to keep a roof over their heads. I thought that this book would be good because It will show the tough times and the bumpy road that they have gone down. I am looking forward to seeing what will

happen with the eight families and to see if any of them will start to have a successful life.
Also, it will be interesting to see if the families interact with each other. I am worried that the book will end up being slow and very boring to read, but that is the risk I am willing to take. On the positive side, I am excited to see if there are major ups and downs throughout the book and to see if any major events happen with the families. To ensure my success with the book I am going to make sure I read my book and take notes to ensure that I understand what is happening.

My Independent Book

The book that I chose was The Compound, by Jacob Switalski. I chose this book because it seems interesting to me. The reason it seemed interesting is that it is about an event that could happen in the real world, but most likely wouldn’t.
